I ride to give hope to Children’s Hospital Colorado patients like our daughter McKenna and my brother Blake.
At the age of 7 we were shocked to learn that McKenna was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. We were naive and scared. We did not know there was a difference between Type 1 and Type 2 and that healthy, active children with normal diets could suddenly be insulin dependent for the rest of their lives. Our family was extremely fortunate to have great medical care and the resources of the Children's Hospital and the Barbara Davis Center on the Anschutz Campus. McKenna is a strong, thriving and about to turn 16. While Type 1 is a life long disease and is not easy, it is manageable. Many of the kids at the Children's Hospital have more challenging fights than McKenna.
My brother Blake was born with Spinabifida many years ago. It was not a very well understood disease back then. Thanks to the great care of the Children's Hospital in the Washington, DC area he was able to live. We were told he would never walk, but he went on to play high school football, snowboard and graduate from Colorado State University. He's a thriving member of our community in Denver, CO.
The Courage Classic is an opportunity to support positive outcomes and healthier futures for kids like McKenna and Blake.
Please help me in supporting the great work of the Children's Hospital Colorado.
My goal this year is to spread awareness. I want to reach 50 donors so even $5-$10 helps me reach my goals of spreading awareness and raising funds.
