Cooper has been part of our EP Family since his cardiac arrest in 2020 and we have had the privilege of watching him grow into an exceptional young man. He is surrounded by an incredibly loving family and we feel blessed that we can continue to be a part of their lives. The superlatives for Cooper can go on forever but I will let Cooper's father tell his story."Cooper collapsed in wrestling practice on Wednesday Feb 26, 2020. His coaches and teacher were directly involved with CPR and the use of the AED to save Cooper's life. I am also an employee of the district and teach and coach with everyone that had hand in this. There were many other USD273 employees, including the office girls, school counselor, and athletic director involved behind the scenes with contacting us and keeping the situation under control. We've been told it was smoothly executed in every way. The stars were aligned for Cooper that day and we hate to think about if this would have happened in any other location, at any other time of day. He was taken to our local hospital that provided nothing but the best care, as always. He was flown to Via Christi in Wichita, where we stayed for a few days. Cooper was in good spirits, felt "just fine mom" and was eating like the average 16 year boy does and we are so thankful for this. After being transferred to Children's Hospital Colorado, we now know that Cooper has CPVT (catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia) and had an ICD implanted. They have called him a "MIRACLE CHILD" and we know, with 100% certainty, without the quick thinking and acting of the USD 273 staff, the outcome would have been much different. We are forever and ever humbly grateful. Our lives were forever changed that day, but we still have Cooper here with us by the grace of God and all of those that prayed and acted on his behalf."Thank you so much for supporting the Cardiac Climbers and Children's Hospital Colorado as we celebrate the amazing person Cooper Adams is!Johannes
