I ride to give hope to Children's Hospital Colorado patients like Zayne.
At 11:24 pm on Saturday, April 27, 2024 – Zayne is in the operating room to receive a new heart. The surgery may take 8 to 10 hours. A second heart transplant is more complex.
At 2:00 am on Sunday, April 28th - The new heart entered the OR
At 3:00 am on Sunday, April 30th - The heart was placed in Zayne's chest.
At 3:30 am on Sunday, April 30th - The heart is in and now beating on its own!
At 6:40 am on Sunday, April 30th - Zayne has been closed up, monitored, and is now moving to the ICU!
This is just a glimpse of what both Zayne and her mother experienced while receiving her SECOND heart transplant. Zayne's original transplant went into rejection last year and Zayne underwent her second heart transplant.
Zayne is now home, and still a long ways out from a full recovery but doing great. Shes eating, slowly gaining much needed weight, and becoming more active as the days go by.
Its amazing to see Zayne battle through this and come out healthy and happy. Zayne has a condition known as Restrictive Cardiomyopathy
Pediatric RCM is a rare condition where the ventricles become stiff and do not expand. The atria becomes enlarged and blood flow to the heart will eventually be restricted. The cause is not known, and there is no cure. Zayne was born in 2010, and 14 months later was given the diagnosis, by 2015 had recieved a heart transplant.
I have known Zayne and her mom since my first Courage Classic in 2016. I have been fortunate enough to ride for Zayne each year and will continue to do so as long as my legs will pedal my bike. Watching Zayne grow is very inspiring and a true testament to the power of medicine.
The Courage Classic is not only a personal challenge, but also an opportunity to support positive outcomes and healthier futures for children.
Lets raise some money for the wonderful children and the Childrens Hospital Colorado Foundation!
