While my husband, Derek, and I have two healthy children, many of our friends have kids who depend on Children's Hospital in Colorado for routine care -- and in many cases for survival. Children's Hospital is an indispensable resource for the entire Rocky Mountain region that is committed to providing critical health care services for children, even if their families cannot afford to pay. So I am riding my bike in one of Children's largest annual fundraisers -- the Courage Classic bicycle ride -- for over 100 miles and over high multiple mountain passes to support this great cause.
Please support my ride with a donation to Children's Hospital of Colorado. Even a little bit counts towards my $1,000 goal. Our team, Summits for Samantha is the reason that there is a world class Mitochondrial Clinic at Children's Hospital. This clinic diagnoses, treats, and supports children and adults with mitochondrial disease and promotes novel translational research to diagnose new genetic variants causing mito disorders, and serves to honor the memory of my close friend's daughter, Samantha: http://samsmom-heathers.blogspot.com/. I ride in memory of Sam and her brother Jack, and their uncle Ryan who is a dad of three and is also afflicted with mitochondrial disease.
I and our team have ridden this event for 17 years (so thanks, previous donors!!!). Our cause is personal but our ripple effect is huge. Summits for Samantha has raised over $1M for the mitochondrial clinic. We have sponsored several clinical trials and provide COQ10, a necessary supplement for our families along the front range.
Your contribution to my ride will help to support this clinic as well as the families who seek treatment there. Our team annually supports this clinic by funding medical personnel, cutting edge diagnostic tools, and costly dietary supplements and other resources for patients. Summits for Samantha, and therefore you, are essential to make sure that this clinic, and their patients, survive and thrive!
Thank you for taking the time to read this post. I value your time and appreciate any thoughts, and potentially financial support, that you might be willing to give in support of this endeavor!
