I ride in memory of Kyle Fan, my first child. 23 years ago, Kyle was diagnosed with Pompe disease at Children's Hospital. During his 14 months with us, Kyle received wonderful care from all the folks at Children's, from diagnosis to a clinical trial for a new enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) to his last weeks with us in the Butterfly Hospice Program. (While the ERT didn't work for Kyle because of antibodies, Myozyme® was approved four years after he died and is being successfully used to treat many children around the world.)
I also ride because our family loves spending time in the Colorado mountains. The Courage Classic has become a family tradition, though this year will look a little different. I’m recovering from spine and wrist surgery after a MTB crash, so I’m unable to ride. Eric, Darcy, and I will be supporting Kiana as she bikes the normal two-day 150-mile route and adds a century on a third day.
Although I cannot ride, I’m still raising money to support this cause that is near and dear to our hearts. Please consider donating to Children’s so that other kids can have the same quality of care that Kyle did! Thanks!
