Background: 

Like all good things, this was a team effort. Charlie Mattie, my Project Manager, mentioned in passing that he and his wife had participated in Climbing for Kids before. Without truly knowing the ins and outs of the event, and with the Tower 3 team itching to summit another 14’er after summiting Grays and Torreys back in August 2020, I jumped into action. Little did I know that what started as merely “let’s go climb a mountain” would mature into “let’s go climb a mountain for kids who have a much larger mountain to climb.” After speaking with Chad Pennick (Pediatric Mental Health Institute Outreach Coordinator for Children’s Hospital), I realized that Encore and the Pediatric Mental Health Institute have parallel mental health initiatives and that Encore could “put our money where our mouth is.”
